What I Help With
Professional Consultation
Complex Trauma Cases and Difficult Clients
In the weeds with your trauma clients? Don’t worry - I love the weeds. I can help you reduce your overwhelm, organize the mess, and find a sense of direction in your difficult trauma cases.
I am particularly interested in assisting trauma therapists with:
Confronting and disarming client avoidance
Effective processing of traumatic memory content
Working with narrative- and dialogue-based trauma interventions
Understanding the role of mentalization in interpersonal trauma
Engaging interpersonally hypervigilant clients
Managing clinician anxiety and increasing risk tolerance
Untangling complex transference/countertransference dynamics
Existential Angst about Being a Therapist
If you’re coming here from my podcast, you know I don’t shy away from wading around in the muck of what it all means to do this work - the complex, the crazy-making, the magical, and the mundane.
My consultation work is informed by a deep sense of our comradeship as therapists, and I’m not afraid of the realities of my colleagues’ humanity. I’m committed to no bullshit, getting right down to business, and looking under the hood together at the things that are hard to talk about in this job.
Among other things, I’m excited to help other therapists:
Reckon with the reality of doing this job in unprecedented times
Confront the “good therapist” archetype and the shame of not measuring up
Unpack the impact of dysfunctional mental health workplace culture
Manage moral injury and vicarious traumatization
Weather existential crisis about just what it is we’re doing here and why, exactly
Unload some of the inherent grief, loss and tension that are part of doing this work
I’m available for one-off consultation appointments or for meeting on a regular basis, with no ongoing commitment required.
Your location isn’t a barrier - I can consult with clinicians anywhere in the world via my online video portal.
